Energetic Anthropologist…

Karen LaPorte was raised in a small seacoast town in Maine, the daughter of a submariner, in a house where ghosts and folklore felt like part of the furniture. Second-generation American with Québécois and Italian roots, she grew up steeped in old-world superstition; where family weddings and funerals taught her, early and viscerally, that clothing carries energy, memory, and meaning far beyond the aesthetic.

That belief has shaped a career that refuses to sit still. Karen has moved fluidly between fashion design, lingerie, vintage curation, indie label-building, energy healing, and teaching; treating each discipline as another language for the same idea: that fashion is a modern form of ancient oral storytelling, an act of energetic excavation. She designs clothing meant to age, patina, and gather the stories of the person who wears it, chasing that particular ping of nostalgia that signals a garment has found its narrative.

Karen holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design and is currently pursuing her MFA in the same discipline at the Savannah College of Art & Design. Her professional path has included time at Cynthia Rowley, Rebecca Taylor, and Journelle as well as running her own independent label, Ouvrez La Porte, out of a boutique studio in Brooklyn. She now lives and works in Savannah, Georgia.
